Clare County Bus Service Gains Okay
- KklOHT CHRIS TMAS • Decorations In Clare cast a bright light throughout
the downtown Clare area while loudspeakers ad Christmas music. Lacking
thus far has been snow. Temperatures soared into the 50's and low 60's setting
records throughout the area. Warm temperatures melted snow that had fallen
earlier in the month. Residents who left early for Florida would have enjoyed
fall like temperatures in Clare. (Clare Sentinel photo)

Commissioner Tom Lester has requested a formal opinion from the
Michigan Attorney General on exactly
what authority docs the board have.
The ruling is not expected for several
weeks because of Ihe complex situation.
Aleck is represented by art attorney
from the Fraternal Order of Police. The
county FOP has the union contract with
the county.
The issue of reinstatement could go to
either the Michigan Labor Board and to
Circuit Court.
It is possible that the Circuit Court will
be asked to order Sheriff Lippold to
reinstate Aleck as a result of the county
board's vote and that the firing violates
the contract.
Commissioner Toni Lester told the
board Monday. *i would like to petition
the Prosecuting Attorney (Richard Allen' to act as our attorney
"l realize he does not want to be
involved with grievances but we have
passed this point and need to know the
proper procedure in paying Lt. Aleck
according to our resolution passed at the
last board meeting
"A newspaper articlestated there is no
place for sympathy in government.
However. I feel that if government had
m ore personal contact and sympathy and
just reasoning to the'nesds of the county
ue would not be in the position we are in
now.
"1 would like Lt. Aleck to serve in the
Probate Court Department as youth
services officer under Judge Alex
S trange.
"The validity of the contract was
signed by Ihe board chairman and in my
opinion is fair ond just. The sheriff sat
wilh us on the development of the
contract and he knows all the rules of the
contract. If he doubted the validity of the
contract he should have stated so before,
"The.board did not order Sheriff
Lippold or mandate, it was a request and
t hope that we could get together with the
sheriff and discuss our problem."
The board took no action on the request
at the Dec. 15 meeting.
