1t is a lovely summer resort, where thousands of the- very best peo­ple
of earth spend the heated portion of the summer season, to enjoy a
delightful outing :and get a new lease of life.
Get your map, find the State of Michigan, on the west shore near
the straits of Mackinaw you will find Little Traverse Bay. There it is,
stretched along its shore, with a water frontage of a mile and a quarter.

other for a distance of nearly a mile from the bay, just a lovely place for
a summer resort. It covers about three hundred and fifty acres of
ground. There are between four and five hundred cottages, seven large
public buildings including a large auditorium with a seating capacity of
about 3,000. These public buildings are used for assembly, summer uni­versity
and camp meeting purposes. There are numerous hotels and
boarding houses. The leading hotels are the Bay View House (G. W.
Childs, proprietor), and the Hotel Howard (J. W. Howard, proprietor.)

The grounds are very nicely laid out. It has a number of very large and
finely shaded parks, including a magnificent natural forest park of about
200 acres, has a water system equal to any city or town for complete­ness.
The supply of water is taken from an artisan well 500 feet deep

How can you get there?
I will tell you, first of all I would not advise you to walk, it will take
you too long and besIdes you can ride almost as cheaply. There are
two raIlroads running directly there. The Grand Rapids & Indiana R.
R. runs almost a direct line from Cincinnati and the south to Bay View.
Strike that road at your nearest point and stay right aboard and it will
land you at Bay View without change of cars. For further particulars
write C. L. Lockwood, G. P. A. , Grand Rapids, Mich., he will make the
way plain before your eyes, will tell you all about their splendid through
vestibule trains and the special tourist rates, etc. See their map in
book. The other road is the Chicago & West Michigan, very direct and
splendid service. Write Geo. DeHaven, G. P. A., Grand Rapids, Mich. I
and he will take pleasure in giving you all needed information. We re-
fer you to their Ad. on back cover. If you prefer to go by boat you can
reach there from almo t any point on the Great Chain of Lakes.

Health.
Are you troubled with Asthma or Hay Fever?-In twenty-four
hours after your arrival you will very likely forget thlt you ever had it.
Full of Malaria ?-The pure air and water will free you entirely from
it in short order.
Are you troubled with Insomnia ?-You probably will not sleep over
ten hours the first night, but never mind, don't get blue. you should
break in gradually.
Hungry?
Don't be bashful, eat all you want, it won't hurt you, it is expected
of you. Be sure and sample those Lake Superior white fish, and don't
tail to weigh yourself when you first arrive.

Do you Enjoy a Olorious Sunset?-There is but one a day there, it
usually occurs late in the afternoon about sundown. You have read
about the "golden street," there it is coming down over the Great Lake,
across the beautiful bay, to your very feet. Don't go IOtO esctacies over
the first one, there will be anoth~r the next evening verv likely more
beautiful than the one you just beheld.
Its Scenery.
We will not attempt to describe it, will simply refer you to some of the
illustrations in this little souvenir. There is practically no limit to its
beauties.
Bay View is surrounded by v.ery many small resorts located bn the
shores of the numerous inland lakes. Trains (with tourist cars) run from
Bay View to these many resorts almost hourly, cost of transportation
little above street-car fare.
In fact Bay view has almost everything d irable to attract and int r­est
the summer tourist. Don't begin to orry as soon as you arrive beea
your stay will of nece&sity be limited, just settle do Dto taking all e

The Camp Meeting.
The Bay View Camp Meeting has a constituency peculiarly its own.
Locally, it is the only similar service within one hundred and twenty-five
milelj Hnd ~11 the upper portion of lower Michigan must attend camp
meeting here or not at all. The cottage owners, there are nearly five
hundred of them, ~re on the ground and easily accessible to all the servi­ces.
The many resorters in the near-by places ofsum mer rest frequently
are !'een in the audiences. Most important of all are the students of the
summer school, representing a score of states, whose influence for good
cannot be overestimated. These all are touched in a greater or less de­gree
by this service. It is estimated that not less than 150,000 strangers
were present sometime during the summer in tbe resort region of which
Bay View is the natural centre, and this IS the sole distinctively Evange-

Nevertheless, meeting:{s of great power and blessing have been held
during all the years passed since the j:{cound was opened. Because of the
character of the people resorting here a high order of talent has always
been demanded. Keen and McKay and Dr. John and almost all our
Bishops as well as the leading men of the state have taught the people
in the things of God. Better, truer, stronger preaching than is heard
from the Bay View pulpit summer after summer it would be hard to find
on any summer platform 10 all the land. It is expected that the former
high average will be maintained in~I8g8.
The Rev. pro Madison Widener of ClOcinnati will be the evangelist in
charge. Ernest O. Sellers of Chicago will have charge of the music.
At 8:00 each morning there will be held a Preacher's Congress at which
leading ministers will deliver brief addresses upon vital topics of practice-
call interest to preachers. At 10:00 each day the Rev. . F. harridan,
B. D., of Pontiac will deliver an address upon some aspect to Bible Study
and the Higher Lice. At 2:00 Dr. Blodgett of Detroit will preach and
conduct a general senile and at 7:00 each evening Dr. widener will
preach and conduct an altar service. Meetings for the Children, for
Young People, for Minister's Wives and for students ill all have a
place in the general Program. For all desired information write the secretary,

Meeting. July 12 to 18 inclusive.

Several summer resorts skirt the water's edge around the bay. Bay View.
Mononaqua Beach, Roaring Brook. Wequetonsing and Harbor Point. In
a few years there will be a broad boulevard along the shore all the way
around the bay, lined the whole distance with summer cottages and per­manent
villas, parks, hotels and boat landings.
The "Traverse Wheelway" skirts~the water's edge for a distance of
nine miles, through the various resorts, around the b:lY. where the pleas­ures
of Bicycling form an attractive feature. while the beautiful scenery
on the route lends additional charms.
Petoskey and these tributary resorts already attract about 100,000
summer visitors from all parts of the American Continent. and the num-
ber i yearly Increasing.

fertile soil, it comprises some of the best farms in the state. It has lands
adapted to grazing, to grain. to gardening, to fruit, and while it is noted
for the excellence and abundance of its potato and all root crops, it is
also becoming known for its fine small and large fruits. It is unexcelled
tor its abundance of pure water, being a region of large and small lakes,
rivers, trout brooks, springs and ponds. Hundreds of locations contain
sites that may be quickly and cheaply converted into trout and other
fish ponds, which will produce a sure annual mcome of increasing value.
The region is densely wooded with noble forests of maple. beech, ash,
elm, red oak, hemlock, pine, spruce, balsam, birch, cedar and other valu­able
timber, sufficient to supply mills and factories for many years. All
over the city Tapidly developing improvements attest a public spirited
people. Its present permanent population is about 5,000 people and is
growing. It is under a city charter and government, inaugurated on
March 8, 1895.

who are compelled to leave home every year during the months of August
and September find this social consideration of no small importance, and'
many have tormed such warm and pleasant church and social relattons
with the people of Petoskey that it seems like a second home to them.
In additiun to these reasons many Hay Fever people enjoy such vigorous
health during their sojourn here that they can, with entire impunity,live
in the open air and indulge in all out-door sports; and the daily cheap
excursions by water and rail to all points of interest in this beautiful and
romantic regiqn-the trout, the greyling and bass fishing within an hour's
reach-and the magnificent boating and yachting afforded by Little
Traverse Bay, combine to render their exile from home a time of con­stant
pleasure. The climate is noted for ifs healthfulness and malaria is
unknown. The winters are not so severe as many may uppose, although
